You Are our Heroes for Animals!
You are our heroes whether you realize it or not! When you come to our stores you are not just thrifters or smart shoppers, you are part of a mission to create a better community. When you volunteer, you are giving time to save lives. When you clean out your closets or garage and donate goods, you are providing a path for the most vulnerable animals in our communities to live in safety and security.
You help us benefit over 40 rescue groups and spay/neuter programs that do heroic work around the clock.
Whatever treasures you might pick up at our stores, here’s what else you buy:
A second chance at happiness and safety for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats.
Some of the pets you help save when you shop at Second Life are pulled from high-kill shelters. Many are pit bulls and pit bull mixes, victims of over-breeding for profit and worse. Many more are cats born during the Spring “kitten season” and there simply isn’t enough room in rescues to house and feed them all. These pets cannot rescue themselves. It’s up to all of us to be their bridge to a better tomorrow.
Spay & Neuter
Reducing the number of unwanted pets from being born is a big part of our focus – there are simply not enough homes. To date, we have provided almost $300,000 to organizations specifically for spay & neuter grants of family pets and trap/neuter/return (TNR) of community cats.
At an average of $75-90 per procedure, this means you have helped around 3,300 to 3,900 dogs and cats take the “no mommy” and “no daddy” pledge.
Lifesaving medical care.
Pets are often in need of medical care due to conditions they were rescued from. From vaccinations and routine surgery like spay or neuter (which reduces population issues and lessens the chance of some future cancers) to more involved care, chances are they need some help by the time they are rescued. If you’ve taken your dog or cat to the vet, you know the costs involved. Pets don’t have bank accounts, but they are extremely valuable to our world. Your support of Second Life gets them back on their feet.
Valuable assistance to domestic violence victims
Abusers are known to manipulate victim/s by threatening to hurt pets in the home if the victim leaves. Many who suffer from domestic violence will not leave their pets in danger. Most women’s shelters will not take pets. We support organizations that supply safety to people and animals who would otherwise be stuck in harm’s way.
Better tomorrows always start with knowledge of how to make them better, for humans and pets alike. From pit bulls to pet overpopulation, from the human-animal bond to how to care for a pet, our mission to educate starts with the basics and doesn’t end until there’s a better world for pets and people alike.
We know there are many people that want to do the right thing but simply can’t afford it…and we are happy to help!
You’ve been with us every step of the way so far. We couldn’t do it without you and we want you to know how much you’ve done to make the stores a success and save lives in the process!
Won’t you come shop, come adopt, volunteer or donate today? There are a million reasons to say “yes”!
