Second Life has two upscale thrift stores in the Atlanta, GA area that were created with the mission of giving homeless pets a second chance at one half million grants sign oct2015life.

We have provided over 1/2 Million ($530,000) in cash grants to more than 40 animal charities and spay/neuter programs!  Your support really does make a difference.

Our 5,000+ square foot main store sells gently-used clothing, housewares, electronics, home décor, books, furniture and more!  In turn, we support animal rescue charities and spay/neuter programs with much-needed cash grants.  Our Furniture, Decor and More store opened in November 2013 and is located next door - and features our furniture, artwork, lamps, decor, vintage and collectibles.   Park once and shop twice!  Find a treat for yourself and give homeless pets a second chance at life!

Since opening in 2011, our goal has been to offer our customers a unique and fun thrift store shopping experience where every purchase benefits homeless dogs and cats. Our store is bright, organized and fun! All items are donated so every visit is a treasure hunt – you never know what kind of goodies you’ll find – and new items are added daily. At Second Life, you will find everything from antiques to vintage to brand new items. Get consignment store quality at thrift store prices

You’ll find our store is geared to the bargain shopper and animal lovers- with fun animal motifs painted on the back wall, rescue and shelter information posted throughout the store – and our Chief Smile Officer, Riley, roaming the store and looking for a good ear scratch. We host pet adoptions on a monthly basis so animal rescue groups can find homes for their adorable dogs and cats.

Donations of gently-used items are needed year-round and can be donated during open store hours. No appointment is necessary. We are a 501(c)(3) organization and donations are tax deductible.

Well behaved pets on a leash who are up-to-date on vaccinations and
are preferably, spayed or neutered, are welcome.  Their humans must be on a leash.

They are up for adoption through Royal Potcake Rescue and their adoption fee is just $100 for both of them ($75 each if adopted separately). Laverne and Shirley are already spayed, vaccinated and ready for love.

While we would love for them to be adopted together, they can be adopted separately, as they have been waiting for their forever home(s) for too long.

PAWS - Penny foster nov2015Adopt Me! I'm Penny, and I'm the best listener ever! A Penny for your thoughts? I'm a 7-year old sweetheart and I'm the newest foster cat for Second Life.

I absolutely love to be petted (but please don't pick me up). I mean...I really love it! I'm great with cats, people and ok with dogs too. I've been atPAWS Atlanta for almost 1 1/2 years. I was an owner surrender so I've lived in a home before.

At the shelter, I liked to sit up on the sunny porch of the cat cottage like a queen, taking in everything around me. I would love to be queen of your home: keeping you company, guarding the sunspots on the floor & making you smile.

Meet me in the Furniture, Décor and More store today. I'd love a home for the holidays.

divider dadada gray1Over 1/2 Million in Grants to Animal Rescue Charities!

altThanks to you...Second Life has donated more than $530,000 - that's 1/2 MILLION dollars - in grants to animal charities since our doors opened in January, one half million grants over 500K collage oct2015 for 2Q15 grants2011!

Wow!  We had no idea when we opened that all of you would help us be this successful so quickly.  It's truly amazing what all of our supporters have accomplished to help give so many homeless pets a second chance at life!  We couldn't do any of this without all of you.

Part of the Solution!  A big part of our focus is helping families be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. We provide grants specifically to organizations that will help low-income families spay and neuter their family pets.

To date, we have provided more than $167,600 to organizations specifically for spay& neuter grants of family pets and trap/neuter/return (TNR) of feral cats.

image - spay neuter multiply may2014At an average of $75-90 per procedure, this means you have helped between 1,860 to 2,200 dogs and cats take the "no mommy" and "no daddy" pledge.

We know there are many people that want to do the right thing but simply can't afford it...and we are happy to help!

You are the reason for our success!  We couldn't do it without our supporters: our customers, our donors, our volunteers and our employees. Every person plays such an important role in our success in being able to help animal rescue organizations give homeless pets a second chance at life.

When you shop at our store, not only do you find unique treasures and bargains, but you are giving homeless pets a chance to find love. When you clean out your closets to donate, you make a difference.  It's such an easy way to help!

Your purchases have helped with:

  • Spaying & neutering of animals before they are adopted - to stop the cycle!charity logos Oct2015 for 2Q2015 grants
  • Offering low cost spaying & neutering to family pets
  • Vetting costs of animals brought into rescue
  • Boarding of beloved pets who are affected by domestic abuse in the home

divider dadada gray1Adopt Our Foster Dog, Gordy

Gordy smiling

Our Egyptian foster, Gordy, is back with us after being in his "forever" home for 9 months. His mom has decided she can no longer give him the attention he needs as she figures out changes in her life. We feel so sad for him as he has already had so much abandonment in his life.
He is up for adoption and looking for a home where someone is home a lot and can be patient with him as he adjusts to a new environment.  He is such a big teddy bear with a lot of character. Look at his smile!
He's about 8-9 years old and is not a high-energy dog, so he'd be great with a family that just wants a big dog to love.   Gordy loves riding in the car and would make a great road companion too!  He just wants to be with his people.
We brought Gordy back from the ESMA shelter in Cairo, Egypt, where a large mixed-breed dog with a deformed paw had little chance of being adopted in his home country.
We believe his forever home really is out there somewhere.  For more information, send an email to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

divider dadada gray1Fostering Saves Lives!

Both of our Chief Smile Officers, Riley and Lucky, were our foster dogs. We had no intention of keeping either dog, but once they found their way into our hearts, weimage - foster homes wanted aug2015 knew they were home.

This is usually the first thing I hear from people when I talk to them about foster.  "I could never give them up" or "I would keep every one."  My answer is always along the lines of "I would rather cry tears of joy knowing they have a forever home than tears of sorrow knowing they never had a chance to get out of the shelter." It's the absolute truth.

We's hard not to fall in love with an animal quickly as they are so loving.  Fostering is one of the most rewarding things we have ever done and will ever do.

We post information about fostering often because we are such strong believers in its power to save lives.

Types of fosters needed include:

  • Long-term - cruelty cases, military deployment, harder to place pets (special needs, shy, seniors, etc)
  • Short-term - 2-3 weeks until the animal transported to rescues in the Northeast US
  • Medical Care - pets recovering from heartworm treatment, medical procedures, mange...any medical needs.
  • Mama's and babies - moms and their puppies or kittens who are too young to be adopted
  • Happy, healthy dogs and cats - adorable, healthy dogs and cats (and other types of animals) who need a place to crash until their forever families find them
Every once in a while, you find a pet that is a perfect fit for your family and that steals your heart...and you become what is known as a "foster failure." And that's ok! For more information on fostering, visit our website.  For a list of groups looking for fosters, click here
