Single Male Looking for Love

When: Until he is adopted
Where:  In our Main Store

PAWS - foster Atlanta Jan2016 sittingMeet our foster cat, Atlanta. This sweet 11-month old came to our Main Store with the hopes of finding his forever home. He has spent almost his entire life at PAWS Atlanta, arriving there last March with his mom and siblings when he was just 4 weeks old.

He is very sweet with cats, people and seems indifferent to dogs - and no one can figure out why he has not been adopted yet. He seems to be overlooked now because he is too big for people who want to adopt little kittens, and he is too young for those wanting to adopt an older cat.

We are amazed at how quickly he has come out of his shell. After just a few hours, he was playing and asking (or should I say demanding) attention and petting. He is a wonderful cat, and we know our supporters will find him the perfect home!

PAWS - Foster Trail - FIV 8 mos - Feb2016When: Until he is adopted
Where:  In our Furniture, Decor & More store

Adopt Love! Meet Trail, our newest foster cat in our Furniture, Decor and More store. This sweet 8-month old is adorable and a little shy at first, but he is coming out of his shell and is sweet.  As you can see, he is also gorgeous! Those yellow eyes are amazing!

He is looking for a special family to love him, as he is FIV+. He is able to live a long and healthy life and can be adopted to a home with another FIV+ cat, a friendly non-FIV cat or as an only cat.

We love that our supporters are willing to adopt cats who need a little extra TLC, so when PAWS Atlanta asked if we'd be willing to give him a chance, we said yes!

Our success is truly related to all of you...who volunteer, shop, donate and promote.

If any one of these pieces to the puzzle were missing, we wouldn't be where we are today.

Where:  Both stores

As part of our "Share the Love" weekend coming up, both stores will be closing early at 3pm on Sunday, February 14 for our Volunteer/Employee Appreciation Party.

Our volunteers are the backbone and heart of our organization. Without them, we wouldn't be able to achieve our mission of providing animal charities with cash grants to help them give homeless pets a second chance at life.

In addition, our employees fill key roles that cannot be easily filled by volunteers and we are appreciative for all they do.

This is an event we look forward to each year is it gives us all a chance to connect and recharge.  We hope you understand our stores closing early for this reason.

divider dadada gray1Over 1/2 Million in Grants to Animal Rescue Charities!

alt

altpuzzle image - 600K - dec2015Thanks to you...Second Life has donated more than $592,000 - that's almost $600,000 - in grants to animal charities since our doors opened in January, 2011!

Wow!  What an amazing accomplishment - and we couldn't have done it without each of you.  Every one of our supporters plays a key role in helping us give homeless pets a second chance at life.

We had no idea when we opened that all of you would help us be this successful so quickly.  It's truly amazing what all of our supporters have accomplished to help give so many homeless pets a second chance at life!  Like pieces to a puzzle...we couldn't do any of this without all of you.

Part of the Solution!

A big part of our focus is helping families be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. We provide grants specifically to organizations that will help low-income families spay and neuter their family pets.

To date, we have provided more than $197,300 to organizations specifically for spay& neuter grants of family pets and trap/neuter/return (TNR) of feral cats.

At an average of $75-90 per procedure, this means you have helped between 2,190 to 2,630 dogs and cats take the "no mommy" and "no daddy" pledge.

We know there are many people that want to do the right thing but simply can't afford it...and we are happy to help!

charity thanks - dec2015

You are the reason for our success!

charity logos Dec2015 - for 3Q2015 grantsWe couldn't do it without our supporters: our customers, our donors, our volunteers and our employees. Every person plays such an important role in our success in being able to help animal rescue organizations give homeless pets a second chance at life.

When you shop at our store, not only do you find unique treasures and bargains, but you are giving homeless pets a chance to find love. When you clean out your closets to donate, you make a difference.  It's such an easy way to help!

Your purchases have helped with:

  • Spaying & neutering of animals before they are adopted - to stop the cycle!
  • Offering low cost spaying & neutering to family pets
  • Vetting costs of animals brought into rescue
  • Boarding of beloved pets who are affected by domestic abuse in the home
  • Education promoting the human-animal bond
  • Promoting pit bull awareness and education
  • Rescuing animals from high-kill shelters
  • And more!

More than 40 animal charities have benefited from Second Life and we hope to be able to continue to help others as we grow. Learn more about the great work these groups are doing in upcoming emails.

divider dadada gray1Fostering Saves Lives!

Both of our Chief Smile Officers, Riley and Lucky, were our foster dogs. We had no intention of keeping either dog, but once they found their way into our hearts, weimage - foster homes wanted aug2015 knew they were home.

This is usually the first thing I hear from people when I talk to them about foster.  "I could never give them up" or "I would keep every one."  My answer is always along the lines of "I would rather cry tears of joy knowing they have a forever home than tears of sorrow knowing they never had a chance to get out of the shelter." It's the absolute truth.

We understand...it's hard not to fall in love with an animal quickly as they are so loving.  Fostering is one of the most rewarding things we have ever done and will ever do.

We post information about fostering often because we are such strong believers in its power to save lives.

Types of fosters needed include:

  • Long-term - cruelty cases, military deployment, harder to place pets (special needs, shy, seniors, etc)
  • Short-term - 2-3 weeks until the animal transported to rescues in the Northeast US
  • Medical Care - pets recovering from heartworm treatment, medical procedures, mange...any medical needs.
  • Mama's and babies - moms and their puppies or kittens who are too young to be adopted
  • Happy, healthy dogs and cats - adorable, healthy dogs and cats (and other types of animals) who need a place to crash until their forever families find them
Every once in a while, you find a pet that is a perfect fit for your family and that steals your heart...and you become what is known as a "foster failure." And that's ok! For more information on fostering, visit our website.  For a list of groups looking for fosters, click here
