When I started Second Life, it was just me and Lucky in those early months. Slowly, volunteers signed up, and the store began to grow into something special. Over the past 15 years, our team has evolved—with people coming and going—and because of their dedication and talent, we’ve been able to donate over $3 million in grants to animal charities.
It may have started as “my crazy idea” (and Toby not saying “no”), but the store belongs to them.
Every rack styled, every donation sorted, every item priced, every customer helped—it all happens because of this incredible team. So much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but it’s what keeps everything running and our mission moving forward. And honestly, you see it reflected in our reviews all the time.
They deserve to be celebrated, so last Friday we hosted our Team Appreciation Party at Refuge Coffee Co. in Clarkston—and it was just the best night. Perfect weather, great food, and time to simply hang out and enjoy each other’s company.
Festivities included a catered dinner, Second Life Trivia questions and prizes, a heartfelt thank you to the team and a trip down memory lane…and a thank you to our long-term volunteers who joined the team in 2011.
